Abstract: In this work, the following characteristics of microprocessors were taken for analysis: frequency (GHz), process technology (nm), number of transistors (million), heat dissipation (W) from 1971 to 2020. According to the presented data, a dimensionless analysis was carried out. Based on the analysis, critical levels were assessed based on the historical development of microprocessors. A predictive assessment of the crisis in the development of microprocessor technologies is made and possible alternatives for solving the alleged crisis are proposed.
