This article explores the challenges and security risks associated with FPGA cloning, where unauthorised parties replicate FPGA-based designs. It describes the impact on intellectual property, competitive advantage, and security. Various countermeasures, including bitstream encryption, physical unclonable functions (PUFs), watermarking, and blockchain for IP protection, are presented. The study also highlights emerging trends in FPGA security to combat cloning and unauthorised replication.en_US
